This Month's news and features
Many pubs around the Broads, hold evening entertainment to keep you in your seats once meal service has ended. You can come across quizzes, comedy nights, vocalists, bands, music and beer festivals as you travel the Broads. However, if like me, you always tend to arrive one day too late to see the band or one day too early to take part in the quiz, take a look at our "Live Music & Other Events page. It currently lists 63 events between now and the end of September enabling you to plan your trip to take in one or two evening entertainment events.

Norfolk Broads City, town and Village lowdown - Brundall

Broom's boatyard at Brundall

Brundall is a sizeable village located on the River Yare around 9 miles cruise from Norwich. It is notable as the base for Broom Boats, makers of luxury power boats - the sort you see at the posh marinas both home and overseas. They have their base at the riverside and you will see their extensive private moorings filled with craft costing up to £500,000. As you approach Brundall from the direction of Reedham you will see lines of neat holiday chalets preceded by two dykes on the right hand side. The first dyke leads to a private marina. Turn down the second dyke which leads to free moorings at the Silverline boatyard. Beware, the stretch is quite narrow in places so travel at no more than tick-over speed. Silverline have space for around 12 boats and you will need to moor stern-on. From here it is a 5 minute walk to the Yare public house (turn right on exiting the boatyard). Limited free moorings are also available at Brooms hire boat base out on the main river. The village centre is located around 15 minutes walk from the Yare public house - over the level crossing and up the hill.

Local Attractions: Brundall has a vibrant village centre and is well worth the walk up the hill from the Yare public house. Brundall railway station is right by the Yare Public House and as the train takes just 10 minutes to get to Norwich it can be considered a good alternative to the up to 2 hour cruise by river it would take to get you into the city centre.

Eating and Drinking: The Yare is not far from whichever mooring you choose and is complete with a restaurant. It is popular with locals and holidaymakers offering a range of typical pub food. Coldham Hall is a public house with a restaurant located on the other bank of the river opposite the two dykes mentioned earlier. Clearly you do not have access to the village from here.

Other Services: A small supermarket incorporating a Post Office, newsagent and ATM machine can be found in the village centre. Close by are a hairdressers and a hardware shop. A doctor's surgery is also located within the village. Water and refuse disposal is available at each of the boatyards moorings. Good toilet and shower facilities can be found in Brooms boatyard.

TIP. You are just 10 minutes away from Norwich by train should you wish to visit, avoiding a 2 hours cruise into the city.
