River Bure map

Acle lies around 10 miles inland by river from Yarmouth, a journey which will probably take around 2 hours to cruise, Because of it's proximity to the east coast resort, Acle makes a good stopping off point. From here you can time your departure to arrive at the correct time to pass through or to stay at Yarmouth where the tidal conditions often restrict passage through the low bridges which span the river near to the Yacht Station. The tide plays a part at Acle too so approach or leave the moorings with caution and always with the bow (front) of your boat facing into the tidal stream. Moorings are plentiful and available either side of the river before passing under Acle bridge towards Yarmouth as well as outside the Bridge Inn which can be found just past Acle bridge on the right hand side. See our map on the below link for actual locations.

Local Attractions: Acle hosts it's own market every Thursday in the town centre. The Weavers Way Circular Walk from Acle is around 4.5 miles in length and will take around 2 hours to complete. The walk that has it all - fantastic broadland scenery, a small market town, riverside paths, woodland, an isolated round tower church and striding out across fields. For more information click HERE

Eating and Drinking: The Bridge Inn - Restaurant and bar food. Very popular establishment with it's own moorings. There is a fee of £5 to moor but this is refundable against your food bill inside. Advisable to pre-book especially so if you prefer to eat within the restaurant rather than the general bar area. Children' amusements and outdoor games available on-site. In Acle town centre: (a 20 minute walk from the moorings) The Kings Head - food available together with occasional live music. Acle Coffee Shop and Manor HouseTea Rooms. Acle Spice Indian and Grumpys Chinese Takeaways - both will deliver to boats.

Other Services: Riverside Stores - small store with it's own free moorings for customers, opposite side of the river to the Bridge Inn. Bugdens, a medium sized supermarket, a butchers, Acle Hair & Beauty Salon, Doctor's surgery, Co-op Pharmacy, Barclays and Lloyds Bank, Post Office - all located in the town centre. There is a Travelodge Hotel in the town. Ideal for overnighting before or after your holiday.

TIP: The Bridge Inn is a Norfolk Broads favourite for those wanting to eat out. Book in advance to get a table overlooking the river. You will need to pay a mooring fee at the Bridge Inn but this is refundable against food purchased.
