Springtime in Reedham

 April 2024 Newsletter
Spring Bank Breaks from £147 per person*

We're officially running headlong into the summer, though you wouldn't believe it with all the recent rainfall we've had. But this is the time when people start planning their holidays to take them through until autumn. One such popular break is over the Spring Bank Holiday, The weather has (usually) improved by then and everything is open.  As such, the public holiday is regarded as the unofficial start of the  boating season. Bookings are coming in and already the two family - 10 berth plus cruisers, are all fully booked. There's still good availability for 2 to 8 berth boats, though it's the case that the larger craft are booking up first. So if you're planning to get afloat with the family over Spring Bank, you need to act now to secure a booking. Below are just a few examples of what's available, with an indication of prices for different durations and boat sizes. You can check what's available by using the Public Holidays availability search a little further down the page.

Norfolk Broads Towns and Villages - Brundall

How Hill House and moorings

Brundall is a sizeable village located on the River Yare around 9 miles cruise from Norwich. It is notable as the base for Broom Boats, makers of luxury power boats - the sort you see at the posh marinas both at home and overseas. They have their base at the riverside and you will see their extensive private moorings filled with craft costing up to £1 million. As you approach Brundall from the direction of Reedham, you will see lines of neat holiday chalets preceded by two dykes on the right-hand side. There are now no public moorings available down the dykes, following the closure of Silverline Marines boatyard, which was situated around halfway down the second dyke. Limited moorings are available at Brooms hire boat base out on the main river. You can also now moor outside the White Heron Public House, though these are chargeable. The village centre is located around 15 minutes walk from the White Heron- over the level crossing and up the hill.

Local Attractions: Brundall has a vibrant village centre and is well worth the walk up the hill from the White Heron public house. Brundall railway station is right by the White Heron and as the train takes just 10 minutes to get to Norwich it can be considered a good alternative to the, up to 2-hour cruise by river, it would take to get you into the city centre.

Eating and Drinking: The White Heron (renamed and refurbished Yare Hotel). is not far from whichever mooring you choose and is complete with a restaurant. It is popular with locals and holidaymakers offering a range of typical pub food. Coldham Hall is a public house with a restaurant located on the other bank of the river opposite the two dykes mentioned earlier. Clearly, you do not have access to the village from here. The Bay Leaf Fine Indian Dining restaurant in the village is awaiting reopening at the time of writing. A fish and chips shop is in the village. Italian and Chinese takeaways can be found on the main village street.

Other Services: A small supermarket incorporating a Post Office, newsagent, and ATM machine can be found in the village centre. Close by are a hairdresser and a hardware shop. A doctor's surgery is also located within the village. Water and refuse disposal is available at the boatyard moorings. Good toilet and shower facilities can be found in Brooms boatyard.

TIP. You are just 10 minutes away from Norwich by train should you wish to visit, avoiding a 2 hours cruise into the city.
