With the recent spell of beautiful weather and more sunshine forecast, now is the perfect time to start planning a family holiday on the Norfolk Broads. With overseas travel becoming increasingly uncertain and the cost of holidays continuing to rise, many families are choosing to enjoy everything a UK staycation has to offer instead.

If you missed last month's newsletter, I featured a selection of great-value boats available during the school holidays. Many are still available, so it's well worth taking another look – simply click HERE to view the newsletter.

This month, I'm "pushing the boat out" by showcasing a selection of larger, mid- to superior-range cruisers sleeping six or more people. These spacious, well-appointed boats offer the perfect combination of comfort, style and practicality, making them ideal for creating unforgettable family memories on the Norfolk Broads.

The boats featured below are just a small sample of what's currently available for the first two weeks of the school holidays. Availability can change quickly at this time of year, so if you're planning a summer escape, don't leave it too long. Norfolk Broads Towns and Villages - Surlingham

Ludham Bridge

Ludham Bridge is the name of the structure which spans the river Ant just a short distance from its junction with the river Bure. A small hamlet has established itself around the bridge though it is true to say that it is an extension of the village of Ludham which curiously enough is actually on the banks of the river Thurne. To travel by boat between these two points would take around 1 and a half hours whereas you can walk between the same points in around 30 minutes and arrive by car in around 5 minutes. Take a look at the map linked HERE to see why. Ludham Bridge is a very congested area as the bridge acts as a bottleneck to boating traffic in either direction. Take care when passing under the bridge, which is not particularly low, but has a blind spot until you round a corner. Boats could be approaching in the opposite direction, in which case you should hold your position or back away if needed. Moorings can be found on either bank once you pass through the bridge heading towards Barton Broad. Moorings here are free and in addition water and waste disposal facilities are available if you moor on the right-hand side.

Local Attractions: The 20 to 30-minute walk into the village of Ludham, which takes you through pleasant countryside is very rewarding as Ludham is the typical "olde worlde" village complete with ancient houses and thatched roofs. Alternatively, just sit on your boat watching the world (on water) pass by. As said, this is a very busy spot so there is always plenty to keep the interest.

Eating and Drinking: The Dog is the nearest bar being around a 7 to 10-minute walk from the moorings. It has a good choice of food and has a separate restaurant. It also hosts live music from time to time. The Kings Arms is on the village's main street so around a 25-minute walk from the moorings. It is well thought of for food and also has a separate restaurant and occasional live music.

Other Services: General Stores and Newsagent - right next to the bridge. Public toilets are a short walk from the staithe - towards the village of Ludham. Water and refuse disposal is available on the right-hand bank after passing under the bridge.

TIP. The bridge is a bit of a bottleneck. Be prepared to abort your journey under at the last minute as craft coming in the opposite direction often cannot be seen until they are metres away from the bridge arch.
