Late Summer Bank Holiday Breaks

The last public holiday of the summer is on Monday 25th August 2022. Why not make the most of this last chance to holiday with the family before the Autumn arrives? Everything ashore is still in full swing and the moorings are that little bit quieter. I've scoured availability and come up with prices that start at less than £150 per person including the fuel and damage waiver as in the case of Brinks Ultima below. All suggested holidays include the August Bank Holiday to minimise the number of days leave you need to use. As always, these are just a few examples of what's available across 3 night durations. We also have 4 night midweek and 7 night holidays available.

Shove up to give space to others
Just a timely reminder that with mooring space being at a premium during the school holidays, please consider other holidaymakers by moving your boat up towards the next nearest boat when you come in to moor. This courtesy opens up space in the more popular locations, and benefits everyone.

Rockland Staithe ceases to be a BA mooring.

Rockland Staithe, at the head of Rockland Broad on the River Yare, will cease to be a Broads Authority mooring at the end of July. It's too early to say yet, but it seems the site is now going to be given over to long-term moorings. If you wish to visit Rockland, and find the moorings unavailable, you do have the alternative of mooring at the nearby 24 hour Broads Authority site on the adjacent Rockland Short Dyke. The moorings are good and properly made up. A 10 minute walk will bring you to the village.

Norfolk Broads Towns and Villages - Stalham

Stalham Staithe

After travelling across Barton Broad on the River Ant, the river diverges. One route takes you to the villages of Wayford Bridge and Dilham whereas the other takes you to Stalham and Sutton. The villages are signposted so you should have no trouble choosing the correct direction to travel. Stalham is a small town to be found at the furthest point of this branch of the river. It is also the home of the largest boatyard on the Norfolk Broads - Richardsons. Richardsons host over 300 of their own cruisers so unless it is a turnaround day, i.e. when holidaymakers leave or take over their boats, there are usually moorings available as many of their own craft will be out cruising. Moorings are also available at Stalham Staithe, adjacent to the Museum of the Broads. You will need to look at our map linked below to get an indication of where these are. Take the left-hand channel rather than entering the boatyard to find them. They are more picturesque but are limited and popular. As such it is wise to consider the boatyard moorings as a plan "B". From either of the moorings, you have a 10-minute walk to reach the Stalham main street.

Local Attractions: The Museum of the Broads is the stand-out attraction here. Depicting life on and around the Broads as it used to be in times gone by, you are able to see how holidaymakers would have fared in Victorian times when the area was starting to open up to boating holidays. Living and working on the Broadland rivers is also displayed with many of the implements used. More information HERE

Eating and Drinking: Swan Inn - Restaurant and bar food. To be found on the main street. The Grebe - Bar food. On the main street. The Harnser - Bar food (turn right at the main street towards Sutton). Cafe Charlotte and The Rainbow Cafe are on the main street.

Other Services: Tesco Supermarket - five minutes walk from the moorings. Newsagents - use Tesco. In Stalham town centre you will find a butcher's, fish and chips, Chinese and Indian Takeaways, a doctor's surgery, and Boots the Chemist. There are now no banks in Stalham. However, Tesco has a cash withdrawal machine on-site. Public toilets and waste disposal are available within the Richardson boatyard complex.

TIP: If you can get in at the public staithe moorings, these are the nearest to Tesco and the high street.
