Late August Bank Holiday - don't let it pass you by!

The last public holiday of the summer falls on Monday 31st August 2026, making it the perfect opportunity to enjoy one final family getaway before school routines, darker evenings and busy autumn schedules return. Why not treat the family to one last summer adventure on the beautiful Norfolk Broads while there's still time to enjoy the long, warm days?

A late August boating holiday offers the best of both worlds. Summer is still very much alive, with attractions, riverside pubs, cafés and visitor centres all open and welcoming holidaymakers, yet the waterways are often just a little more relaxed than during the peak school holiday weeks. It's a wonderful time to enjoy peaceful evening moorings, dine outdoors beside the river and make the most of the last days of summer before autumn arrives.

To make finding a great-value break even easier, I've scoured current availability and found holidays starting from less than £186 per person, including fuel and the damage waiver, as with Ruby Gem below. With the Bank Holiday extending the weekend, all of the featured breaks start on the preceding Friday or Saturday and include the Bank Holiday Monday, helping you enjoy a longer holiday while using the minimum number of annual leave days.

As always, the holidays featured below are just a small selection of the 3-night breaks departing on the preceding Friday or Saturday. If you're looking for a different duration, departure date or a wider choice of boats, simply use the blue availability search further down this email to compare hundreds of boats and find the perfect Norfolk Broads holiday for your family.

Norfolk Broads Villages - Waveney River Centre

Waveney River Centre

Just beyond its junction with Oulton Dyke (leading to Oulton Broad) on the River Waveney is the Waveney River Centre. Moorings are available on the riverside. Expect to pay £14 for an overnight stay. This fee includes the use of the showers and toilets on the site. Short-stay moorings are also available without charge.

Things to do: The site has a swimming pool and spa which is open to visitors on payment of a small entrance fee. A childrens adventure playground is free to use. The centre operates a ferry to the other bank of the Waveney which is the edge of the Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve. From here there is a circular walk or a 45-minute journey that will take you to Oulton Broad. More information HERE

Eating and Drinking: The centre has a large public house/club room, The Waveney Inn, which serves not only the river craft but also the on-site holiday chalets and camping and caravanning fraternity. As you would expect, the food menu caters to all tastes with breakfasts, baguettes, and sandwiches together with main meals and desserts.

Other Services: Their is a supermarket and gift shop on-site together with a laundry.

TIP: The best toilets and showers anywhere on the Norfolk Broads are to be found here though you can only make use of them if you have paid the overnight mooring fees as you will need a code to enter which allows access to the shower block.

For more information and mooring locations consult our Waveney River Centre  map
