November 2024 Newsletter

Well, British Summer Time has waved us goodbye, leaving us with only sweet daydreams of next year’s sunny escapades! Remember this? - gliding down shimmering waterways with the roof down and your favorite drink in hand. Ah, bliss! For now, our boats are "grounded" being subjected to a little TLC to have them shining bright come February. Speaking of February, mark your calendars! You can hop aboard a cruiser starting as early as the 8th in time for the school half term holidays (half term varies by location). A fair few boats will be ready for those eager to set sail!

This month’s newsletter is all about summer school holiday bookings—things are heating up! Many savvy sailors are already nabbing those August weeks before the post Christmas booking scramble hits. If you have a particular date or a favourite boat in mind (or if you’re planning to bring a large crew!), it’s a great idea to check what’s out there now. If you wait too long, you might have to get a little creative with your plans! Take a peek at a few options for midweek and week-long breaks below. Click on the boat images for more info, or use our availability tool below (you can search any date from the 8th February, 2025!) to start dreaming up your next adventure. Happy planning!

Norfolk Broads Towns and Villages - Irstead

Irstead and its moorings

Just before entering Barton Broad (from the Ludham Bridge side) is the small village of Irstead. Moorings are very limited and there are no services in the village. That said, this is a very pleasant spot to stay for a lunchtime stop amidst the passing river traffic and within reach of some lovely countryside walks.

Things to do: The village contains St Michael's Church which dates back to the fourteenth century and is well worth a visit. The Barton Broad Boardwalk can be reached from here by making your way toward Neatishead along Irstead Road. The distance is around 1.5 miles. The boardwalk takes you through typical Norfolk woodland and swamp before you come across a terrific viewing point taking in much of Barton Broad. It is said that this is the only point at which you can view the Broad without being afloat. The boardwalk is around 1.5 miles in length

Eating and Drinking: There are no pubs or cafes of any description in the tiny village. If you don't mind the walk, you can get to the White Horse in Neatishead by walking along Water Lane and then School Lane. The journey should take around one hour on foot.

TIP: It is best to have a plan B if you intend to moor here as there are only 4 or 5 boat spaces available.
